Filipino Katoliko 29th AGMA Prints Positive Future

Filipino Katoliko Church’s 29th Annual General Membership Assembly prints more opportunities in serving the Lord, the Holy Church, the Country, and the People.

The 29th AGMA held last September 1, 2024, was started with a Pontifical Mass officiated by Most Revd Pedro P. Fenis, Jr., the Filipino Katoliko Church’s Head Bishop and co-celebrated by the Saint James Parish administrator and Davao Diocesan Bishop Eduardo F. Fenis.

In attendance during the assembly were representatives of the different parishes, missionary chapels and sectoral church organizations.

Presided by the Head Bishop as the current Board of Director and or College of Bishop Chairperson, the 29th AGMA approved several landmark decisions.

First, after the approval of the quorum and agenda, the Board of Directors unanimously approved the annual report highlighting the efforts for internal strengthening and unity in fulfilling the Holy Church's mission. It also includes participation in interfaith social movements aligned with the Church's faiths and beliefs.

It was followed by the Declaration of the Appointments of the Bishops and Priests defining respective assignments, ecclesiastical ranks, and territorial jurisdiction.

The 29th AGMA also approved 11 Resolutions presented by the BOD/COB after the election break.

The 29th AGMA adopted that Mutual Aid programs shall be implemented in each parish. Further, Community Bayanihan should also be established as parishes' humanitarian and emergency response committees recognizing the recurring climate disasters. The committee should also be working on programs and activities responding to the climate crisis.

One key highlight was the relaunch of the 4 Key Church Ministries namely Ministry on Women & Youth headed by Revd Fr. Alejandro V. Notarte, Jr.; Ministry of Liturgy & Rubrics headed by Bishop Carlito G. Verzano, Sr.; Ministry of Social Action led by Bishop Eduardo F. Fenis; Ministry of Finance headed by Bishop Jaime B. Dadol. These Ministries are expected to lay down programs and plans to which will be discussed per parish.

In his message, Most Revd Pedro P. Fenis, Jr highlighted that as a community Filipino Katoliko shall strengthen the fellowship; as believers shall follow God's will and moral duties as Stewards; shall show care and compassion to believers and not; shall acknowledge that success cannot be done overnight and without sacrifices. He further reminded his fellow attendees of the 29th AGMA to enjoy serving the Lord, the Holy Church, the Country, and the society in any simple way.

The concrete resolutions and actions that respond to both internal consolidation and strengthening of the public spaces were seen as opportunities to expand the manifestations of the Filipino Katoliko's mission and vision as a denomination and a community.

The 29th AGMA's theme was inspired by the words of Saint Matthews 4:19, "We are fishers of (men) people" that serve as a guide for all brethren in the Holy Church to be a comforting and caring shoulder, heart, and home for all seekers and lost lambs.

This year's assembly ended with Ruth Vergara's song BUTA which calls on all Filipino Katoliko members and all people to go beyond dreaming, instead show care and compassion to neighbors and actively contribute to the restoration of God's creation as Stewards.

2nd Filipino Katoliko Youth Fellowship was successfully held.

Children of God, People of the Church, Stewards of the Creation.

The 2nd National Youth Fellowship dubbed as KOMUNIDAD, with 32 Filipino Katoliko youth leaders from different parishes and dioceses of the Holy Mother Church (Filipino Katoliko) was successfully held last 24-28 June 2024 in Duyos Camping Resort, Coring, Basilisa, Dinagat Island.

Delegates from the Bukidnon, Davao, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Sur, and Agusan del Norte provinces met a day ahead of the travel time to the venue in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, hosted by the San Antonio de Padua Parish.

KOMUNIDAD 2024 aimed to provide a space for the young members to build camaraderie as a community; collectively revisit the Church’s history, faiths, and beliefs; reflect on the important issues and concerns that the young people nowadays are facing; understand the socio-political and environmental challenges and the tasks today and ahead; review the organizational systems and mechanisms and lay down long and short-term plans and programs for the upcoming years.

The delegates arrived on the 24th of June 2024, at the Feast of Saint John the Baptist.

25 June 2024

The fellowship started with a Eucharistic celebration with Rev Fr Alejandro Notarte, Jr (Parish Priest of San Antonio de Padua in Osmena, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur).

This was followed by the General Orientation on the Filipino Katoliko’s historical and sacramental narratives and basis with Bishop Jaime Dadol and Most Rev Pedro Fenis, Jr as led discussants. The presentation included the Church’s principles, vision, mission, faiths, and beliefs. It was a sound and interesting discussion with young people asking questions and clarifications and even presenting reflections.

Meanwhile, Rev Fr Alejandro Notarte, Jr, and Bishop Carlito Verzano, Sr led the discussions on the importance of the Words of the Lord. The narratives and accounts of the Old and New Testaments were also revisited, emphasizing how these words and wisdom guide good Christians and children of God.

The day ended with the declaration and renewal of commitments as members of the Holy Church.

26 June 2024

It was a calm morning.

The day was allotted to the socio-political concerns confronting the youth and society.

Most Rev Pedro P. Fenis, Jr and Bishop Jaime Dadol in a dynamic duo shared on the Creation and how it was destroyed.

The discussion has reminded us that as children of God, we are called Stewards and not exploiters of Creation.

The youth leaders were given time to discuss the concerns that confronted them as a sector and community. They were also asked how they could effectively contribute to their proposed responses.

In the afternoon, the group was divided into three smaller groups to discuss three thematic focuses – Depression, Addiction, and AgroEcology. Workshop facilitators were Arnel Arceno, Johanna Olaivar, and Genneviev Saripada. The workshop discussions were theoretical and practical exchanges between and among the facilitators and participants. At the end of the sessions, concrete recommendations were laid down, presented in the plenary, and later included in the plan of action of the fellowship.

27 June 2024

A representative from the Basilisa Municipal Environment and Natural Resources was invited to discuss with the participants the importance of Coastal Resource Management in the race against the impacts of Climate crisis. He highlighted the need for all stakeholders to take on the challenge now to ensure the survival of humanity and all other species. He is also critical of the destructive and exploitative programs hitting the environment and affecting the communities. He called and encouraged the youth leaders to continue the efforts that contribute to the restoration of the global balance of nature. According to him, small actions can be big if people act together.

The session was supposed to be followed by a Mangrove tree-planting activity. Due to high tide, the group decided to plant coconut trees in the camping resort periphery after the management agreed.

After all the formalities, the team-building and fun part followed. Group games were organized to improve friendship and camaraderie among youth leaders.

The latter part of the day was the organizational part and planning.

The fellowship elected a new leadership, and a solidarity program organized by the campers closed the night.

28 June 2024

It was a ride back home for all of the delegates. A brief assessment and evaluation with the parishioners of the host, San Vicente Ferrer Parish, and the Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel was held before the departure.

The 2nd Filipino Katoliko Youth Fellowship’s theme was: “AS STEWARDS: Care for the Creation, Restore Nature and Build JustPeace Future”

We express our deepest gratitude for the support and solidarity in different forms to all members, non-members, advocacy networks, and government offices.

For the Filipino Katoliko, it is also our responsibility to contribute to shaping a better future and we believe that the Youth Fellowship played an important role.

A collective composition of the workshop on AgroEcology:

“Iligtas and Mundo”

Kailangan ba pumasa sa pasulit?
Pagpipilia’y GMO ba o Organik
Dalawa kayong pagpipilian
Pipili daw dahil kailangan
Gusto ng karamihan maraming ani
GMO nga ba ay OK?
At nagkakrisis ang mundo
Lito, Gutom, Hirap ang mga tao
Sa ating kabataan
Boses ng kaunlaran
Di dapat mali kung pakinabang ang mithi
Sa organic, healthy ang everybody
Inang kalikasan ay ating pangalagaan
Mina at mga illegal ating iwasan
Adbokasiya’y panghawakan hanggang dulo
Tungo sa pagbabagong ligtas ang mundo

Filipino Katoliko Agusan-Surigao del Sur launches Diocesan Youth Fellowship: A Journey to Our Faith and Environment

Image

We are very happy to host this big step for our young faithful.

At present, the world is confronted with various challenges. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is only one of the worst effects of human greed and neglect of their duty as guardians and stewards of the Lord's creations. The worst is that the most vulnerable carry the heaviest burden. And it seems the destruction is not ending. The combat is becoming more urgent than it was.

To contribute to the global efforts to bring humanity back to its senses and be substantially involved in cooling down the Earth on all fronts and fields, the Filipino Katoliko Church led by its Youth Ministry, particularly in the Agusan-Surigao del Sur Diocese will be gathering around 40 youth leaders and members from different parishes and chapels for a Diocesan Youth Fellowship: A Journey to Our Faith and Environment. This will be from the 28th to the 30th of July 2023 in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur.

Apart from spiritual and religious activities during the Youth Fellowship is an EducaTour: Experiencing Agriculture and Environment. This aims to motivate and inspire young people to be catalysts in appreciating and protecting the environment, natural and ecological food production, and food growers.

As a religious denomination and a social organization, it is our moral and spiritual obligation to perform our very duty as stewards of the creations. The EducaTour to Flora Tilapia Hatchery this 29th of July 2023 is to bring the discussion among the youth amplifying the call for environmental restoration and agroecological socio-economic systems.

At Flora Tilapia Hatchery, administered by a young farmer there will be a sharing of personal journeys of transformation, appreciation, reflections, inspiration, and recommendations from invited young farmers speakers, and agroecology practitioners. It is also a one-day farm-life experience for the participants.

Our congregation is young and small and logistically and financially challenged, but we are committed to molding our young people to be ecologically aware and active.

God Bless Us All.
